The first time I saw a Merganser Duck was in Upper Bidwell Park. They are surprising birds to discover in the wild to the uninitiated, with their exotic-looking crests and lovely, rich colors. I’ve not seen one at Horseshoe Lake yet but I know they’re around. Maybe the grumpy families of ducks and geese around that lake haven’t invited them to stop by yet.
